Welcome to the LGMS Homepage!


The LGMS's purpose is to bring together persons interested in the gem and mineral hobby; to promote the study and collecting of minerals, fossils, artifacts and the lapidary arts.

  • The Society also publishes a monthly newsletter, The Rockytier for its members. Newsletter

    The"M. E. W."is the Society's Mobile Educational Workshop. It houses an assortment of lapidary equipment that are freely available to members.

    All LGMS members are also members of the regional South Central Federation of Mineral Societies and the national The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies. LGMS awards an Annual Scholarship to a select student in the Geosciences Department at Texas Tech University . And, in addition, contributes to the American Federation Scholarship Fund in the field of Earth Sciences.


    The LGMS meets at Forrest Heights United Methodist Church
    3007 33rd St.
    Lubbock, Texas,
    on the first Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm CST.

    Membership is open to all interested parties. The annual dues are:

    • Adults - $22.50
    • Students - $5.00
